6323 The underlying connection was closed: Could not establish trust relationship with remote server

SYMPTOM

When opening Point, an error occurs: "The underlying connection was closed: Could not establish trust relationship with remote server."

CAUSE

The SSL Certificate cannot be validated. Verify that you can access the PDS Service URL.

  1. Open Internet Explorer.
  2. Enter your PDS Service URL (for example: https://mypdsserver.com/service)
  3. If a Security Certificate warning appears, then there is a problem with the SSL Certificate.

RESOLUTION

Your PC is displaying the incorrect date and time

  1. Open the Control Panel.
  2. Double-click Date and Time.
  3. Verify that the DateTime, and Year are accurate.
  4. Click the Time Zone tab.
  5. Verify that the time zone is set correctly.

The security certificate is not yet valid or has expired.

Check that the certificate dates are valid and the computer date, time, and year are correct.

The certificate issued by a company has not been trusted.

If your organization issues its own certificates based on its own Root CA (Certificate Authority), verify that the Root CA certificate for your organization is properly installed on the client computer.

A firewall is prohibiting Point from accessing the PDS URL.

Open the firewall from the client computer and verify that Point is set to Allow or Full Access and that Port 80 and 443 are open.

There is an invalid service URL in Point Administrator

  1. Open Point Administrator from the client computer.
  2. From the Point Data Server section, click Settings.
  3. Verify the URL ends with /service. (for example, mypdsserver.com/service)

Install the Updated Root Certificate on the client computer

  1. Open Point Administrator from the client computer.
  2. From the Point Data Server section, click Settings.
  3. Click Test Connection.
  4. From the Test login to Point Data Server window, click the PDS URL.

The web browser will launch to the service url. If you receive a security certificate warning, click Continue to this website.
  5. From the toolbar, click the Certificate field next to the service URL and then click View Certificate.
If the certificate is issued by GoDaddy, download the updated GoDaddy certificate, gd-class2-root.crt
If the certificate is issued by Starfield, download the updated Starfield certificate, sf-class2-root.crt
