SYMPTOM
When you install or open Point, an error occurs: "PointStarter has stopped working. Windows is checking for a solution to the problem..."
CAUSE
Internet security settings are too high or a 3rd party application is blocking Point from downloading.
RESOLUTION
Disable Firewall
- Open your antivirus or firewall software.
- Locate the setting to disable the firewall and select Disable or Turn Off.
- Try Point again.
Note: You should add pointstart.exe and winpoint.exe to the trusted programs list in the firewall settings. Contact your systems administrator or product support for the firewall you are using.
Turn off the Windows Defender or Windows Live One Care services
- From the desktop, click the Windows Start button.
- For Windows 7 - In the search field, enter services.msc and then press <Enter>
- From the Services window, look for Windows Defender and Windows Live One Care.
- If they exist, right-click on them and then click Stop.
- Try Point again.
Disable User Access Control - Windows 7 only
- From the desktop, click the Windows Start icon.
- In the search field, enter msconfig and then click <Enter>.
- From the System Configuration Utility window, click the Tools tab.
- Scroll down and highlight Disable UAC.
- Click Launch.
- Close the DOS Prompt window.
- Restart the computer and try Point again.
