6388 Word found locked fields during update. Word cannot update the locked fields

SYMPTOM

When you print a custom form, an error appears: "Word found locked fields during update. Word cannot update the locked fields"

 

 CAUSE

• There are locked fields hidden in the custom form document.
• A {SHAPE * MERGEFORMAT} field is included in your mail merge main document. The {SHAPE * MERGEFORMAT} field is created when a text box or an AutoShape with a drawing canvas is added to the mail merge main document.

 

SOLUTIONS

Remove the locked fields that are hidden in the custom form document

1. From the Navigation Panel, click the Templates tab.
2. Select Custom Forms/Letters/Email.
3. Select the custom form that is generating the error message and click Open.
4. From the Menu bar, select Edit > Select all.
5. From the keyboard, press and hold <Alt> + <Shift> + <F11>.
6. Repeat step 6, ensuring the <Alt> and <Shift> keys are held while you press <F11>.

7. Click Save from the Point Custom Forms window.

8. Click Close from the Point Custom Forms window.

9. Print the custom form again.

 

Change the wrapping style of the image or text box within the custom form

1. Open Point.
2. From the Navigation Panel, click the Templates tab.
3. Select Custom Forms/Letters/Email.
4. Select the custom form that is generating the error message and click Open.
5. Right-click any image or text box, and select Format Picture.
6. Click the Layout tab.
7. Select any option other than In Line With Text.

8. Click OK and print the custom form again.

 

Turn off drawing canvas when you insert autoshapes

1. Open Point.
2. From the Navigation Panel, click the Templates tab.
3. Select Custom Forms/Letters/Email.
4. Select the custom form that is generating the error message and click Open.
5. From the Menu bar, select Tools > Options.
6. Click the General tab.
7. Uncheck the Automatically create drawing canvas when inserting autoshapes box.

8. Click OK.
9.Print the custom form again.
