CAUSES

  • The data folder is set to unavailable
  • The user does not have full access to the FOLDER.INI file, which is located in the data folder

RESOLUTIONS

The location of the data folder is unavailable or does not exist

    1. From the desktop, select Start > Run.
    2. In the Open field, enter winpoint.ini and click OK.
    3. Locate the Directories entry, then find the Folder0= parameter.
    4. Write down the path that appears after Folder0=. (For example ...=\\server\pntdata or ...G:\pntdata.)
    5. Close the winpoint.ini file.
    6. From the desktop, select Start > Run.
    7. In the Open field, enter the path you wrote down in step 4.

If the folder does not open or if you receive an error, the data folder path is invalid or does not exist. Contact your network administrator to reconnect your computer to the location of the data folder.

If the folder does open, see the next topic.

The data folder is set to unavailable

  1. If the folder did open in the above solution, double-click the Folder.ini file.
  2. Find the Available= parameter.
  3. The Available= parameter should be set to 1. If it is equal to 0, change it to Available=1.
  4. Save the file and re-open Point.

You do not have full access to the FOLDER.INI file that is located in the data folder

    1. If you were able to open the folder from the first solution, right-click the Folder.ini file.
    2. Select Rename.
    3. Rename the file oldFOLDER.INI and press the <Enter> key on your keyboard.

If you receive an "Access Denied" error, or if you are not able to rename the file, contact your network administrator to give you full access to the folder to resolve the issue.

If you were able to rename the file, rename the file back to its original name of Folder.ini
